When it comes to Search Engine Optimization, there are such things as good, optimized backlinks and bad backlinks. We all know, or should know, that “link farms” are not favorable in the eyes of Google, so don’t bother with them. But how do you get quality, optimized backlinks?
The problem that most affiliate marketers unknowingly experience when building backlinks for better search engine rankings is that they typically do it all wrong. They end up wasting their time by not fully benefiting from quality backlinks. Why do I mean by that?
Some people will post dozens of comments on different blogs, all linking back to their homepage using a single keyword phrase. For example purposes, I’ll use the affiliate marketing niche to demonstrate what I’m saying. People will post using the anchor text (blue underlined hypertext): Affiliate Marketing Strategies.
All of the backlinks that are pointing back to your site all use the keyword phrase Affiliate Marketing Strategies. This is a very common, and very expensive mistake. Don’t fall prey to this mistake.
Two Things That You Must Do To Get Better Results In The Search Engines
In order to dominate the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), follow these two rules for commenting on blogs and forums:
Rule #1: Don’t point all of your backlinks to your homepage
Link some of your backlinks to your homepage, but also do some “deep” linking to your secondary pages as well. For example, if your website contained these 3 pages:
index.html
ppc-strategies.html
article-marketing-strategies.html
make sure that your backlinks are linking to all of those pages, and not just the index.html page.
Rule #2: Use different keyphrases for your anchor text
Don’t use a single keyphrase for all of your backlinks. Use different keyphrases in the anchor text, but make sure that it is relevant to the page that you’re linking to. Let me give you an example:
index.html
-> link text: affiliate marketing strategies
ppc-strategies.html
-> link text: pay per click tactics
You get the idea…and don’t EVER use “Click Here” for your anchor text. From an SEO perspective, this doesn’t help you. You don’t want to rank on the term “Click Here”, so why use it as anchor text!
So, to recap…when you post comments on other blogs, use links to your homepage AS WELL AS “deep” links to your secondary pages. Also use a variety of keyphrases as the anchor text in the backlinks.
